Young Latvian women lost to Cuban basketball team

　　JINCHENG, China - In the opening game of the Four Nation Women's Basketball Tournament here, Team Cuba prevailed against the challenge by the Latvian women's team. The young Latvian players were unafraid of world no. 7 Team Cuba at the beggining of the game as they made two 3-point field goals and took a 14-10 lead. Cuba adjusted their strategies after a timeout. They raised the tempo and attacked the Latvian basket and was able to overtook the opponents with a one-point lead (20-19) at the first quarter. The gap was widened to 37-27 at the half.

　　Although trailing behind in the second half, Latvia did not let Cuba win the game easily. They Latvian players fought hard and closed the gap to just 7 points with a coulple 3-point field goals. But experienced Cubans were able to hold on the lead to the end with a 68-63 victory. Yayma Peillón and Yamara Delgado combined scored 50 points for Cuba.
