Canada put up a good fight but lost to Cuba

JIYUAN, Henan Province - In an effort to prevent a winless participation in the tournament, the Canadian team came out strong at the start of their last game in the tournament aganist Team Cuba. Taking advantage of Cuba's turnovers, Canada attacked the basket and took an early 11-4 lead. After a timeout, Cuba was more successful in shooting the ball and slowing down Canada's scoring, and the quarter ended with Canada leading 15-12.
I. Gonzalez and Y. Akalin were called to play in the second period for Cuba. They helped the team by stealing the ball from the Canadians and scoring. Taymi also contributed with a 3-point shot which helped Cuba to come from behind and took the lead with 30-25 at the end of the second period.
The Cuban team as a whole did not shoot the ball well tonight but Yayma Boulet Peillón scored 22 points and got the Canadians players into foul trouble. Not only was Yayma Boulet perfect on the free throw line (8 for 8), she also had 9 rebounds, 3 blocks and 4 steals. Although Team Canada shot over 40% from within and beyond the 3-point line, but they committed a total of 23 turnovers, which was the cause of their lost to Cuba. Cuba won 67-60 at the end.
