Semi-finals: Game 3, Liaoning sweeps Qingdao and Guangdong is still alive

  Guangdong 110, Beijing 99

Emmanuel Mudiay returned to the Chinese Basketball Association carrying a huge mission that to save the Guangdong South China Tigers in semi-finals, for which he has not played for three months due to injury. The teenage pro just nailed it with 24 points and 8 rebounds, and Guangdong pushed the best-of-five series against Beijing to 1-2 after beating the defending champion 110-99 at home.

The top NBA draft prospect might not play a perfect game with shooting 8 for 19 from the field and 6 for 10 from the free throw line, but he did something that Guangdong desperately needed to avoid elimination. He contained Beijing’s best player Stephon Marbury and pushed the ball from backcourt to frontcourt. Guangdong has never beaten Beijing in the CBA playoff or the finals since Marbury joined the Ducks four years ago.

“We expected a lot from him and he played a huge game for us.” Yi Jianlian said after the game. Yi finished the game with 23 points and 17 rebounds.

“It is a great win for us and we want more.” Mudiay said, “We need a win in Beijing and the chance is still alive.”

Randolph Morris had a game-high 27 points and 11 rebounds and Marbury had 16 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists for Beijing.

No one has come back in the playoffs to win the series after being down 0-2 in CBA history since the best-of-five series was introduced to the league.

  Liaoning 129, Qingdao 110

The Liaoning Flying Leopards advanced to the finals for the first time in 8 years after completing sweep of the Qingdao Eagles 3-0 in the CBA semi-finals with a 129-110 victory on Monday night at home.

Liaoning dominated the game after the first quarter when they were down by 2.

Lester Hudson had 29 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists for the second seeded Liaoning. His backcourt partner Guo Ailin finished the game with 20 points and 5 assists, and Deon Thompson had 20 points. Han Dejun and Li Xiaoyu each had 18 points.

Iranian center Hamed Haddadi was not available for the game due to physical problems. Justin Dentmon had 40 points, including 7 3-pointers and Mike Harris had 23 points for the Eagles.

The first game of the finals has been scheduled on the 10th of March when Liaoning will play against the winner between Beijing and Guangdong.
