Hudson’s heroic triple-double helps Liaoning top Beijing in Game 3 for 2-1 CBA Finals lead

  Lester Hudson had 31points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds for the first ever triple-double in CBA Finals and went for a decisive lap-up to power the Liaoning Flying Leopards to a 109-108 victory in Game 3 over the Beijing Ducks Sunday night at MasterCard Arena in Beijing, leading the best-of-seven series 2-1.

  Down by one, Hudson got rid of one defender to cut through the lane and made a tough lay-up in the hustle to give Liaoning a 109-108 lead with 2.9 seconds left. Li Gen of Beijing drove the ball from half-court and turned it over facing extremely defense from Guo Ailun. Liaoning wasted the remaining 1.8 seconds before Beijing tried to make a foul.

  “We had great execution tonight.” Liaoning’s coach Guo Shiqiang said after the game, “But I can’t talk about our last play.”

  Beijing had plans for Hudson in the last play, but the American was too good to defend. “Our plan was to defend like a box, basically from the perimeter. Sun Yue pushed the ball and contended the shooting. But our guys failed to close in and defend the paint. ” Min Lulei of Beijing said.

  Hudson made all of 17 from free throw line, but missed all of 10 3-pointer attempts. Han Dejun had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Deon Thompson also had 17 points for Liaoning. Guo had 14 points and He Tianju added 16 points for the No. 2 seed.

  Stephon Marbury had 23 of his 41 points in the final quarter, including a 2+1 play in the paint with 18.8 seconds to go, which gave the defending champions a 108-107 lead.

  Randolph Morris had 22 points and didn’t play in the last quarter because of coach’s decision. Li Gen had 15 points for Beijing.

  Game 4 is Tuesday night in Beijing.
