Beijing beat Liaoning to win CBA championship

At age of 38, Ex-NBA all-star Stephon Marbury remains atop in Chinese Basketball Association, leading the Beijing Ducks as the Finals MVP to win the third title in four years after beating the Liaoning Flying Leopards 106-98 in Game 6 of the CBA Finals.

Marbury had 24 points and 7 assists in the season finale, but it was Zhai Xiaochun whom made 8 consecutive points to help Beijing pull away for the victory in late third quarter, scoring 27 points behind shooting 5 for 9 from 3-pointer arc. Randolph Morris had 19 points and Li Gen added 10 points for Beijing.

The 3-time champions were not among the favorites when they finished the regular season as No. 4 Seed with a 27-11 record. The Ducks, however, have proven that what they have done in the regular season has nothing to do with what they would do in the playoffs - defeating the No. 1 Seed Guangdong in the semis and No. 2 Seed Liaoning in this series. Beijing did not make it to the Finals in 2013, but three titles in four years is quite convincing that a dynasty has been built.

The league co-MVP Lester Hudson led Liaoning with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists, and He Tianju had 21 points. Guo Ailun had 15 points and Han Dejun scored 12 points with 7 rebounds.

Beijing led by 3 in halftime and outscored 26-19 in the third quarter to make it a 10-point game. Liaoning couldn’t turn the game into their direction in the rest minutes.
